Couple updates

On our Lectures page, a couple new things:

  • I reposted a new, shortened version of our Neuro lecture for tomorrow.
  • I also dug up some lecture videos on Epithelium and Connective Tissue from a previous year just in case you wanted to watch a lecture recording on those lectures (ours didn’t get recorded…I’m working to make sure that doesn’t happen again.

About our exams, including the first exam on Friday:

  • We can use ExamSoft! YAY!!!
  • This means that I will leave the exam open all day on Friday (from 12 am to 11:59 pm), and you can take it at any time or place that you want on that day. You’ll have 2 hours to complete it once you start. I’ll also post some further information on the exam (how many questions, what type, what you can expect from my questions, etc.) later, and we’ll also talk about this tomorrow during class.
  • If you have exam accommodations, this makes your life MUCH easier, because you don’t have to go to the DRC (which isn’t even open before 8, so that was going to make things difficult). You can take it anytime, anywhere, and you’ll have the time accommodation built into your exam for you.

Preauricular sinus!

A dental student from a couple years ago had a little boy with a preauricular sinus, which is something we’ll be talking about in lecture tomorrow. She sent me a photo and gave me permission to use it in class – so I wanted to share it with you.

The dental student also shared some of the stuff she learned about preauricular sinuses:

Preauricular sinuses can be either inherited or sporadic. When inherited, they show an incomplete autosomal dominant pattern with reduced penetrance and variable expression. They may be bilateral, increasing the likelihood of being inherited, in 25-50% of cases.

I think it’s easier to remember something when you have seen it in real life (or in a picture from a dental student’s baby in real life)!

First day of class!

Hi everyone! I’m SO excited to start our course and meet you all tomorrow! Although I don’t know what the heck happened to the summer – it’s baffling.

I hope you all received my introductory email – it outlines what you can find on this website. I’ll be posting stuff on this page (our home page) pretty frequently –¬†things like schedule changes, links to grades, great student questions and answers, and anything I think might help you learn the material. You may want to bookmark this page – or, even better, sign up to follow us by email at the bottom of this page – that way you won’t have to remember to check back.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at See you tomorrow!
